Volvo only just introduced its Polestar performance program in the United States on November 7, yet the Swedish carmaker is already expanding its offerings to include the 2011-2012 XC60, S60 and XC70 models fitted with a T6 engine.

The new T6 Polestar ECU upgrade package increases power from 300-horses to 325HP and peak torque from 324 lb-ft to 354 lb.-ft. on all three models. According to Volvo, the power increase does not affect the cars' average fuel consumption numbers.

Not all car manufacturers are suffering from the economic crisis that is currently raging in Europe. Volvo, for one, is expecting to sell between 430,000-440,000 units this year, compared to 374,000 cars last year.

According to the Swedish carmaker’s CEO, Stefan Jacoby, the reason for this is that Volvo’s biggest European markets are in Scandinavia and Germany, which don’t face the financial crisis that storms the southern regions like Italy, Spain and Greece.

By Volvo’s own admission, the XC90 was a “latecomer” in the luxury SUV market as it was launched in 2002 – some five years after the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and three years later than the BMW X5.

Nevertheless, Volvo claims that the XC90 has become “Sweden’s most valuable export product”, selling a record 85,000 units in 2005 and bringing in about US$6.2 billion to the company in its peak years. The U.S. has been the XC90’s number one market with 38,800 units sold in 2004 and 36,200 in 2005.

While a 1967 Volvo Amazon Kombi may seem like one of the last cars you'd consider putting up against a Ferrari 458 Italia, it doesn’t take long to see that this Swede is not your run-of-the-mill station wagon.

The team over at GTBOARD, which uploaded the video on Youtube, didn't provide any supplementary information on the Amazon, but looking through our archives we discovered that this particular modified Volvo is most likely the same car that was displayed at the 2006 SEMA Show, albeit updated with several tuning goods.

The one at the Las Vegas show sported a 600 horsepower six-cylinder engine. Scroll down to watch it in action.

You know that the world is changing when a carmaker like Volvo, once the staple of doctors and soccer moms, which cherished the brand's safe and square (in both meanings of the word) station wagon models, starts engaging in “factory-authorized” tuning for some of its models.

Volvo North America announced that its Sweden-based, long-time tuning partner Polestar, maker of the one-off 405HP AWD C30 and 330HP S60 performance concepts, has developed software upgrades for the 2008MY and later C30, C70 and S40 models equipped with the five-cylinder turbocharged gasoline T5 engine.

Almost every carmaker already has, or is currently developing, at least one electric vehicle in its range. Volvo is part of that group and it has been testing its C30 Electric since autumn of 2010.

In June, the compact all-electric Volvo entered production –albeit at a limited rate, since it will be available for leasing only to a select number of European buyers.
